Recently started looking at cars again since by the middle/end of March I’ll have enough saved up for something decent... Couple choices here, just wanted to get oppo’s input. Shower me with your Subaru knowledge, since I don’t have a clue about them in general. There was also a Trueno hatch I saw on CL last night but deleted as of now:/ Hoping I stumble on another one, or maybe a 240sx

Honda - strange rusty looking pipe for air intake is odd, grinding transmission I would run away from

Subaru - anyone trying to tell you a 95 subaru in that condition only had 80k miles is insane. I’m betting he’s claiming that for the engine swap but still.

Worrisome

I wouldn’t buy a swapped car. Any swapped car...with a possible exception if it came with shop receipts (because I would buy the hell out of a Converse Volvo). If you go meet the guy, consider that you are looking into the eyes of the guy that wired the car. Less so for the Honda, but the Impreza requires a full harness swap. Even if it was done correctly, would you trust that everything was wrapped, color-coded and otherwise made to actually last? Someone with that dude’s attention to grammar actually wiring a car gives me preemptive nightmares just thinking about it.

In the case of that Impreza, consider the utter lack of information given about the transmission. All the bellhousings on the EJs are essentially the same, so that engine could have been bolted onto the stock transmission...and that’s a terrible idea, though the cheapest way to do it.
